The annual Woodhaven Garage Sale, which is the largest neighborhood sale in the area, has traditionally been held the last weekend of June. It is sponsored by the HOA, as well as the McCabe Real Estate Group (who also provide this newsletter). Over the past four years, there has been a large increase in the number of other sponsored neighborhood sales on the same weekend. As a result, the City of Sherwood requires that these sponsored sales obtain a City Event permit in advance. The permit process requires a lengthy application to be completed, proof of insurance from the HOA, as well as other logistical details that are part of the approval requirements.
The HOA Board of Directors has decided that this year that the HOA will not be organizing or sponsoring an annual garage sale. There are permit requirements that do not fit an "event" such as a garage sale that the HOA has no control over, as each sale is conducted by residents on their own private property.
The HOA encourages homeowners to still hold their own sales that weekend if they wish to piggy back on the traffic that will be in the area for all the other sponsored sales. Homeowners will need to be responsible for their own advertising and signage, and will need to comply with all city codes regarding garage sales, signage, etc.
